Possible Serial Killer in Pittsburgh

The below is taken from the website: http://www.mayhem.net/Crime/killersatlarge.html

Possible Pittsburg Serial Killer" (12+) Pittsburg police announced there could be a serial killer in their city who has claimed the life of more than a dozen prostitutes since the late 1980s. However, detectives can't establish a connection between the cases except the victims' hard lives as drug addicts who sold themselves for a fix and ended up dead in remote areas outside the city, some in suburban communities and others in outlying counties.

Some victims, such as Leah Hall, 32, of Oakland, who was found dead in Carnegie in 1997, were strangled. But the coroner's office hasn't been able to establish a cause for others, such as that of Cherida Warmley, 43, of Lawrenceville, whose skeleton was found in North Versailles last year, or Faye Jackson, 24, of Garfield, whose dismembered remains were found in a Monroeville creek in 1994.

Talk of a link began in October, 1999, with the discovery of the skeletal remains of Angelique Morgan, 27, in an abandoned Shadyside house. In the winter of 1997, after the bodies of Hall and Dorothy Siemers, 29, turned up in the suburbs, county police said they suspected the deaths could be connected.

Three years ago, Torbin and Pittsburgh police Cmdr. Ron Freeman even discussed going to the media to drum up information about some of the deaths, although they never did.

While some city and county detectives privately doubt there is a link, others point to the improbability that so many similar deaths -- perhaps as many as 18 -- would be the work of different people.

At least five Allegheny County deaths fit the category of prostitutes from the city found dead in the suburbs: Hall, Siemers, Warmley, Jackson and Jessica Freeman, 15, whose beaten body was discovered along railroad tracks in Bethel Park in 1992. Two recent deaths also might be part of the police investigation.

On June 28, the skeletal remains of a young woman were found in a vacant house in Wilkinsburg. She has yet to be identified, but an autopsy showed she was strangled. On Oct. 6, Morgan's skeletal remains were discovered. The cause of her death hasn't been determined, but police suspect she was slain, because she was found under a carpet and a mattress with her sweat shirt wrapped around her head. Police said she was a prostitute and drug addict.

"We have developed suspects in most of these cases, but the evidence does not overlap," said Sgt. Lee Torbin, a 27-year homicide squad veteran. "There is no common denominator."

  1. I see no mention of the killing & dismemberment of a young, male prostitute who went by the name of "Crazy Tony" in the late 1980s-early 1990s. I remember hearing that parts of him were found from North Versailles to Oakland. I think it fits with the above examples.

    1. I agree. Please feel free to share any more information that you have regarding "Crazy Tony". the only way we will get the answers to the crimes is to never stop asking questions and searching for answers.

    2. I knew Tony and his brother and the other victim. All 3 were male prostitutes. I know Tony's brother committed suicide in jail but I do recall him being more quiet then his brother and kinda depressed. I know Tony's family denies him being a prostitute but he was and so was his brother. I'm surprised this story has never been turned into a book or movie because it's probably one of the most interesting bizarre crimes not to mention the interesting cast of characters they knew.

    1. What does the death certificate say? Who published the death certificate? Is the person that signed off on it still around?

    1. Never move on until in your heart, you know there is nothing else you can do. That small flame that keeps burning is there for a reason. Do not let that flicker cease. In time, the truth will cause it to re-kindle. The truth will surface and justice will be met.

  9. Cherida Oden-warmley is my mother and I don't believe that her death was the act of some'serial killer. She's been stereotyped and categorized due to her lifestyle, but if there was a serial killer then or now, it may have been the likes of her'boyfriend'at the time and his gang of brothers. She went missing on June 10th 1997 and her body was found on October 10th 1998 in North Versailles. The cause of death has yet to be determined since all that was left were skeletal remains, lingerie, men's boxers, and a man's jacket she was wearing, which I identified as belonging to the boyfriend at the time. I know who killed my mother and she told me that it would happen earlier on the day she went missing. They even tried to kill me one night as I slept in my mother's bed hoping she'd return- because I had initiated a missing person's case and I wouldn't mind my business, but I wasn't alone and I ran for my life and never went back. I even told the detectives that he taunted me by saying that I was a dumb, naive little b****, she wasn't'missing'and that I'd never find her. The nerve of him to brag to a lost and confused little girl. Maybe there was a serial killer, maybe there wasn't, I'm not sure. But I know in my heart who took my mom from me, I just don't have the physical evidence to support my accounts of events and there was no DNA to help prove what happened either. Pittsburgh police and detectives didn't care then and they don't care now. Steven George killed my mother and tried to kill me, end of story. It's not the first homicide that he's committed, probably not the last either. How dare the city forget about our loved ones cases but go through extreme lengths to get the killer of a police animal

  11. I believe there are recently a strange string of murders of young men over past 1 to 2 years in Pittsburgh also. I know of 3 (sure there are more). 1. Young man disappeared after leaving friends in North Shore area. Body washed up this past year in Ohio River near Big Beaver. 2. Young man disappeared in S. Side area. Search was going on for months by family. Followed trail to Mon River, not sure if body found. 3. Young man from Duquesne University. Family searching last 2 weekends. In there a serial killer taking these men and killing them? All have suddenly disappeared for no know reason by family or friends. Seems strange to me.

    2. Aren't those similar to the Smiley Face murders that have been happening across the world. It seems all over the country including London young men were known to have left bars and walking and disappearing only to be found at later dates in water and most times there's a smiley face painted nearby.

  12. IAM Steven George the one the young lady was speaking about. I wish she would tell the truth. I never brag or said anything to her regarding her mother. Would could believe I could even ask my brother's to do something like that. And for reason would they agree. I couldn't possibly do I am disabled from a car accident. She know that her was on drugs and was out there turning tricks. I cooperate with the police took lie detector test. I care
about her family even pray for them everybody in Lawrenceville know I didn't do.anything like that. Some even seen her night she went some didn't want to talk to the police because of there life style.I hope they caught who it so her family and me and have some closesure.
