Strange Crimes' in the City of Pittsburgh

There are many interesting crimes that occur in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pittsburgh is described in Wikipedia as noted on the link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pittsburgh.

One of the most recent nationally reported crimes involved a mass shooting at an LA Fitness Center involving George Sodini as noted in the links noted below.

Many wondered, why would such a nice looking young man do such a terrible thing to so many innocent people? I personally don't understand it. Many people don't. He appeared to have a lot going for himself. I guess it just goes to prove, that it is important to be nice to people all of the time, because you just don't know what is going on in their heads...

More of a reason to following the Golden Rule. Per Wikipedia, "The Golden Rule is an ethical code that states one has a right to just treatment, and a responsibility to ensure justice for others. It is also called the ethic of reciprocity." I don't mean to preach but there are many things in the Bible that can help us in our everyday life to avoid some occurrences from happening. Don't just read the Bible, but practice living the way the good book instructs us to, Do unto others, as you want others to do unto you (Luke 6:31). Scriptures from the bible has saved many lives when it comes to the difference between life and death and other crimes committed against a person. This has nothing to do with this blog, but I wanted to share it with you since it has come to my mind to do so.

I think that before people act or react to things, they need to think about the consequences. Crimes can be avoided, if people would just think about what they are doing... And to also think about the outcomes of the crimes...

  1. Right after the LA fitness center shooting Dan Savage talked about the shooter in "Savage Love." I found the column again online at http://www.chicagoreader.com/chicago/savage-love-august-13-2009-george-sodini-got-advice-from-the-wrong-guy/Content?oid=1176804

Savage gives a very thoughtful response to the sexual issues of the shooter. Here are some lines that stuck in my head all these months,

"[Sodini] was getting [advice]from R. Don Steele, author of How to Date Young Women: For Men Over 35. The book was sitting on Sodini's coffee table in a video he posted to the Web. [...]("Immediately improve your success with women!" Steele says on his Web site, steelballs.com. "Everything is 100% guaranteed money back.")

Sodini felt he was entitled not just to sex and a romantic relationship but to sex and a romantic relationship with a much younger woman."

  2. There are some things I don't like about Savage Love, but I always appreciate Savage's views on sexual entitlement. He strongly beleives that people should seek sexual fulfillment, but also argues that sex is not a right.

  3. Very intersting comments. Thanks for sharing. It is amazing how people are influenced so much by other people, especially what Sodini felt he was entitled to, more specifically - with a younger woman. This is mMore of a reason we all need to be more responsible for our actions and the type of energy and information we put out into the world. Everyone has a different interpretation of things and very different perceptions about LIFE.

  5. This blog post must have taken you hours to write- with the scope of crimes and links that you bring up. Kudos for that. At the same time, I think it would have been easier to read if you had broken up the posts- wrote one entirely on Sodini's shooting spree, another one on Pittsburgh cop crimes, and another one on the racial aspect of crimes in Pittsburgh, for example. It bounced around so much that there was a little too much information to absorb all in one post that was not quite related to each other other than the Pittsburgh aspect.

I think people were nice to Sodini, I just don't think he got the sort of attention from women that he wanted. It seemed like he expected material goods to make up for some social characteristics he lacked.

That's a pretty cool song you wrote. I like it. :)

  6. Thanks, Lauren. I appreciate the comments. Since this is all new to me, it is a LIFE learning process. That that I am more involved with it, I am liking it... More, and More... It is becoming, like Andrew Sullivan said, almost...(I hate to say) ADDICTIVE... Looking for information, posting information, Looking for comments... Neverending, but yet stimulating and exciting.. I may go aheard and make edits per your recommendations. I really appreciate your comments.

  9. Sodini was a disturbed individual. He'd ride the west bus way everyday sometimes sitting next to my wife. My wife always had her wedding ban on her ring finger. She also had her CCW and sidearm. But a CCW could not stop two pineapple grenades he had in his pockets. Thank God she had the wedding ring. Advice for the ladies...wear the ring, even if you aren't married. He did end up killing a friend I knew a long time ago....
